DELRAY BEACH — An $8 million renovation of the clubhouse at Delaire Country Club is expected to begin next April.
The country club has already spent $3.8 million to upgrade golf-course infrastructure, improve perimeter landscaping and upgrade two kitchens. The clubhouse renovation is the final phase of a capital-improvement program.
“With the current flow of new residents to the area, we felt it was important to modernize our facilities so that they stand up to other competing venues,” said General Manager Joe Basso. Additionally, many of these new residents are younger, and some with families. This changes our demographics and what amenities Delaire needs to offer in response.”
Country clubs often tell members that improvements are needed to preserve and increase property values. Basso said there has been an increase in property values at Delaire but noted that is as much a result of post-pandemic demand as it is facility improvements.
“We do expect that this second phase (clubhouse renovation) will strengthen the value of residency in the Delaire community,” he said.
Delaire offers its members 27 holes of golf and eight har-tru tennis courts. One of the planned improvements calls for a four-court pickleball complex.
Membership voted overwhelmingly to support the project earlier this year. Basso said the process began in 2016 with a membership survey. Based on the results, a working group was created to bring the project to fruition, he added.
Homeowners will not be issued any special assessment for the project, which is being funded out of reserves to pay for capital projects.
“As in any business, there is a certain level of that but it is in the interest of staying relevant in the marketplace.”
The project will result in the renovation of the main kitchen, expansion of outdoor dining space, the addition of two new dining venues, a cabana bar and a member’s grill.
